Disappearing world

First, the distant Rocky Mountains disappeared and then more and more of the far banks of the Glenmore Reservoir disappeared in a haze of white. It's -4C (24.8F) this afternoon, the snow has finally stopped, and it's definitely more pleasant sitting in front of my computer with a mug of coffee than walking along the edge of the Reservoir in South Glenmore Park for almost three hours this morning : ) However, we were lucky to see the reported Pacific Loon the far side of the Reservoir, first in distant flight and then as a tiny speck on the water : ) Not much in the way of bird life, though a Bald Eagle did fly overhead, and we did see a Bufflehead or two, three Horned Grebes, 10 American Tree Sparrows, plus a few of the "usual". Living 1,000 km from the ocean, we are lucky to have the Reservoir as our body of water. A lovely, peaceful feeling to be down near the water's edge.

Came across a butterfly photo the other day that I hadn't uploaded, when I was searching for something else. This is a Leopard Lacewing, a female I think, in the Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo.. Taken way back in early May.

Zig-zag

Wasn't sure whether to post this one or not, as it doesn't look very carefully photographed (i.e. if I'd taken a bit more time, I would have angled my camera to avoid the bit of "mess" where stem meets flower and would have removed the leaf on the left.). Light indoors was not good. I love the zig-zag edges to this Tulip's petals - I don't usually see Tulips like this one. Bought, as usual, from Safeway : ) LOL, I'm still waiting for some sunlight to come pouring through my window so that I can get another chance to try again before these flowers die. The "flame" pattern inside is really neat, too - hoping that at least one of the flowers will open before it whithers and dies : )
Patterns and shapes

Decided to post something that isn't a flower, a bird or a mushroom, LOL! I collected many species of shells many years ago and thought I would use my macro lens on one of them the other day. I've always been fascinated by shells that have a zig-zag pattern on them - can't for the life of me think of the word that is on the tip of my tongue that I wanted to use instead of "zig-zag" : ) Later: the zig-zag patterns remind me of seismographs : ) Think that's the right word.
