Amongst the Lily pads

17 Jan 2012 134
This bright little flower had been dropped into one of the lily ponds in the ENMAX Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo, either by a child or - as another photographer standing nearby said - by another photographer who wanted to create a photo. Funny, it would never have occurred to me to do that. Apart from getting a "fake" photo (in my eyes, anyway), I would have felt so guilty picking a flower! Needed a bright photo today, as it is -30C (-22F) at the moment (heading towards noon)! It's supposed to rise one whole degree to -29C this afternoon (windchill -42C). Expected to be -35C (-31F) tomorrow morning, soaring to a balmy -24C in the afternoon. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday all below -20C, soaring to a high of 0C for Saturday and then back down to -15C on Sunday. Next week should all be above 0C ... sigh. I really need a trip to Safeway, unfortunately, and I had planned to go for back X-Rays this afternoon. I didn't plug in my car yesterday, as I was planning to go back out again, so I know I should at least step outside and do that, IF I can get the front door and screen door open. Had a problem with it yesterday morning - the rubber strip along the edge of the screen door had frozen to the door step, ha! Oh, the joys of winter!

The lily pond

Chances are running out to photograph the water lilies on this teeny pond in the Butterfly House at the Calgary Zoo. The Conservatory is now in the process of being demolished, ready for a brand new building to be built. Will be about a year before construction is complete and I can take new photos of Tropical flowers, butterflies, and cacti. It's going to seem like one very LONG year : )
