Tiny tightrope walkers

These tiny mushrooms are some of my favourite fungi to photograph : ) This pair was growing on the curved stalk of a small leaf. The tallest one was no more than an inch in height, probably closer to three-quarters of an inch. Found at Shannon Terrace in Fish Creek Park on 12th September.

I always enjoy coming across one of these tiny Marasmius (?) fungi in the forest. Haven't found all that many this fungi season, but hopefully next fall will be so much better. Macro photo taken at Brown-Lowery Provincial Park on August 20th.

Another macro shot of some teeny (maybe three-quarters of an inch tall) mushrooms that were growing on small leaves on the ground at Shannon Terrace, Fish Creek Park, on September 17th.

Just another of my miniature mushroom memories : ) This tiny shroom was no more than three-quarters of an inch tall. At last I can actually say that I'm looking forward to being able to search for these teeny mushrooms later THIS year, instead on NEXT year, LOL. This particular mushroom (Marasmius - thanks, Doug), growing on the stalk of a small leaf, was found at Shannon Terrace, Fish Creek Park. Meanwhile, I noticed that snow was mentioned in the forecast, unless it has changed by now. Hopefully that means some beautful snowflakes rather than the powdery white stuff : )
The helpful lady from the Coroner's Office in England called a short while ago and left a message with the results of my brother's autopsy - natural causes, Ischaemic Heart Disease. I was up to about 5:00 a.m. this morning, I think, trying to find a few songs/music that felt right for John's funeral. I went to YouTube to listen to various ideas, but I'm still not sure how I can get some of these choices from "here" to "there" (Birmingham) : ) I wasn't thinking very clearly and just saved the songs from YouTube - which I read later doesn't work (for obvious copyright reasons, I guess). I think my friend in England said that the funeral place has a list of music to choose from, but of course there are so many versions of, say, Amazing Grace, that I'm not sure how I know what version would be played. Any help/suggestions from anyone who has had to do this, would be much appreciated. Now that the autopsy results are known, I know that time for getting things done is running out rapidly.
Life on a leaf stalk

Well, on a very enjoyable walk at Votier's Flats, Fish Creek Park, yesterday morning, no Northern Pygmy-owl, no Northern Goshwak, no sign of the two Coyotes we saw a few days ago, no Three-toed Woodpecker. Everyone tried their best to spot at least one of these amazing birds, but we were totally out of luck yesterday morning, LOL! I'm really glad that I had walked this area a few days ago and seen all but the Woodpecker. You just never know what you will see - or not see : ) I was happy though, because my eyes happened to spot these two teeny Marasmius mushrooms growing on the end of a small leaf stalk near the path. At first, I thought they were two white berries on the ground (that were everywhere). At least a few friends got to see THESE - I think they were amazed at the size of these little one-inch-tall fungi. Love their bright orange stalks.

Funny, just got to thinking, how these delicate stalks support the weight of the teeny caps - such an extreme to the Twin Towers of 9/11. Remembering all the precious victims and their families and friends, who have suffered immense sorrow since the horrific events in each of the places that were attacked. Our thoughts are with you all.
Love these teeny mushrooms that grow on dead leaves. I suspect they are a different species from all the very tiny white fungi that grow up out of dead leaf material, but seem to be more firmly "rooted" to something. Found these ones growing at Brown-Lowery Provincial Park on 7th September. They may have been around half an inch tall. Oh, and I noticed an empty casing from some kind of insect on the leaf, behind the mushrooms. Will post a macro shot of it sometime. Thanks, Doug, for the ID - Marasmius!
A day of mixed weather today. Was out all morning for a birding walk in Fish Creek Park - Sikome and Bow Valley Ranche areas. Decided I would go to the far western end of the park straight afterwards, though I had a feeling that this decision was against my better judgement. Nothing like a short hail storm to make mushroom photography impossible, LOL! In between hail and rain, I did manage to shoot a couple of Wolf Spiders - there's nothing like making eye contact with these through my macro lens, ha! Also a bit of Wolf's Milk Slime and a small variety of fungi. Everywhere was very muddy and slippery. Was the same out at Brown-Lowery Provincial Park yesterday afternoon - the trails there are just one mass of tree roots and when these get really wet, they can be treacherously slippery. It was kind of funny, as I was down on the ground photographing "you know what" and when I turned around I noticed a man standing on the path a short distance away. I told him that he had scared me to death, and he told me that he had called out "Hello" five times so that I would know he was there, but thought I must be hard of hearing. I'm not (for which I'm truly thankful), but I guess I was completely in my "own little world", ha. We walked the loop back to the parking lot and, despite the fact that this was a birder, he ended up getting a "crash course" in fungi - very patiently! Nice to have company, as usually I'm there on my own : ) By the way, it turned out that we do have some mutual friends and aquaintances.
In a tiny world

These were the tiniest of mushrooms, growing on a small, dead leaf at Bebo Grove on 28th August. They always amaze me when I see how tiny these fungi are.
Was out on a full-day driving trip east of the city today (I wasn't driving), to check out what birds were to be seen. It has been a gorgeous day today, sunny and comparatively mild (around 3C?). We did see six beautiful Snowy Owls, though all of them were SOOO far away - no use for photos. The pure white males were just dazzling in the bright sunshine. Also saw about 30 Eurasion Collared Doves in flight.
