Mushroom magic

24 Aug 2009 271
I always love seeing a display of these mushrooms around the base of a tree in the forest. These ones were seen on 17th August at Brown-Lowery Provincial Park. I was there again this afternoon for a couple of hours, but everything was dry and there were far fewer fungi to be seen. I saw a dead young Coyote at the side of the road on my way to B L and pulled over just to make sure the animal was dead. Had obviously been hit by a vehicle, judging by its broken leg. I felt very sad driving the rest of the way to my destination.

A huddle of shrooms

Pholiotas, I believe. Always love to see these clusters of shaggy mushrooms growing around the base of trees in the forest. We found these ones on Rod Handfield's land on August 13th.

Survival of the fittest

I always enjoy seeing this spiked kind of mushroom. These were growing in the forest at Brown-Lowery Provincial Park on 23rd August last year.

Prickly pair

Had to dig a little way into my archives, back to 29th August, to find this pair of mushrooms that were growing along the Fullerton Loop trail in Kananaskis (off Highway 66, Elbow Falls Trail).

Happy little family

This photo makes me just feel happy, LOL! Not sure if this was the same log where just one of these mushrooms was growing the other day - I uploaded a photo of this single fungus a few photos "down". We saw this little family grouping on a walk just below the Bow Valley Ranch this morning. Made my day : ). (I know - it doesn't take much to make my day!)
