Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!!
25 Dec 2015 |
|
Lol, those of you who know me, know that I love photographing owls. Needless to say, my daughter, with her brilliant ability to choose gifts that are exactly right for each person, found this perfect little wooden Christmas tree ornament for me and gave it to me on 21st December, when we had our Christmas get-together, spent SE of the city with our cameras. The red felt background shows through all the cut-out holes, and I added a clipart candy cane.
I hope everyone who celebrates Christmas is having, or has had, a lovely day. Thanks to the freshly fallen snow yesterday, we have a white Christmas, unlike last Christmas.. The sun is shining, the sky is blue, and the temperature is -18C (windchill -24C). Brrrr!
For many people, Christmas is a very difficult time, for various reasons. My thoughts are with them and, as always, with those who for one reason or another will spend Christmas alone. To those of you who don't celebrate Christmas, I hope you have a happy day, anyway.
Wishing you all a HAPPY CHRISTMAS and all the very best in the New Year! If you will be on the road, please don't drink and drive!
Merry Christmas!

Needless to say, my daughter, with her brilliant ability to choose gifts that are exactly right for each person, found this perfect little wooden Christmas tree ornament for me and gave it to me on 21st December, when we had our Christmas get-together, spent SE of the city with our cameras. I was playing around on my computer last night and somehow ended up with this 'drawing' and decided there was something about it that I liked - and then I couldn't decide whether to post the red version or this one. Ended up posting both.
I hope everyone who celebrates Christmas is having, or has had, a lovely day. Thanks to the freshly fallen snow yesterday, we have a white Christmas here, unlike last Christmas.. The sun is shining, the sky is blue, and the temperature is -18C (windchill -24C). Brrrr!

I know RED is your colour, Rebecca : ) Also, red is considered a lucky colour, so thought I'd use this Indian Paintbrush to go with my very best wishes for tomorrow and the recovery time afterwards. Good Luck! I took this photo when I was out west of the city yesterday afternoon, at Maclean Pond. Sorry to hear about your extremely high temperatures!

Only three more days till Christmas, for those of you who will be celebrating! A few shiny baubles - actually part of a wreath that I bought recently, partly so that I could take a few photos, and it was even on sale : ) - to wish you all a very Happy Christmas!
Rest in peace, little Caylee

I made this poster a couple of days ago, hoping that there might be no need to use it. However, the breaking news today is that the remains found recently in Florida ARE those of little two-year-old (almost three) Caylee Marie Anthony. I have followed this huge case closely for the last few months and it has caught the attention and emotions of so many people. I won't go into how I fail to understand how any mother (assuming she is found guilty at trial) could ever do this to another human being, especially her own beautiful little daughter. I will simply say "It's a sad, sad day today."

Couldn't resist taking a photo of these two cute snowmen faces. I'm almost beginning to feel guilty because our weather is so beautiful at the moment. Not sure what the temperature is. I usually turn on my TV to check the forecast, but my TV died two days ago : ). I want to see if they are still forecasting snow for the days around Christmas Day. Meanwhile, we are all enjoying the blue skies and sunshine, and hope that you are fortunate enough to not be suffering from the dreadful winter storms that have been happening in some places.

A few of this year's birds to decorate my Christmas "tree", to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and all the very best in the New Year! For many people, Christmas is a very difficult time, for various reasons. My thoughts are with them, including all the people in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, who have suffered such a huge tragic loss in their community the last couple of weeks. I think most people, far and wide, have been affected by this and have these folks in their thoughts and prayers. As always, those who, for one reason or another, will spend Christmas alone, will also be in my thoughts. To those of you who don't celebrate Christmas, I hope the coming week will be a happy one for you. Happy Christmas, everyone! If you will be on the road, please don't drink and drive!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Just wanted to pass on this beautiful Thanksgiving e-card from The Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Needless to say, I was delighted that the tiny Northern Pygmy-owl from down in our local park is being shared with so many people! I love these little popcan-sized owls! Congratulations to the other four photographers whose images are on this card (not to mention all the runners-up) - I think you can tell they enjoy what they are doing. My thanks to anyone who might just have happened to vote for my image - I really appreciate it. If you have never used Cornell's birding website, please do take a look. Tons of excellent information there.

Apologies for posting yet another photo today.

Easter has arrived unexpectedly quickly and caught me off-guard. Hope you all have a safe and peaceful Easter weekend. Don't eat too much chocolate - wish I could share this little chocolate bunny with you! Oh, just realized - I ate it a few weeks ago, LOL! If you don't celebrate Easter, or don't do anything special to celebrate it, then I hope the sun shines and you have a relaxing weekend : )

I should have said "all my American Flickr friends who live in the US or elsewhere"! Anyway, I do hope you all have a happy and safe day tomorrow. No matter what our circumstances are, there are always endless things, large and small, to be thankful for, especially when compared to those who live in many less fortunate countries around the world. Enjoy your turkey dinner, if you are lucky enough to have one, and enjoy the company of family and friends, if you are fortunate enough to have either or both!

I know it's not very Christmasy, but I thought I'd post this, as many of my Flickr friends and local friends seem to enjoy our feathered neighbours and take spectacular photos of them. I do have a more Christmasy "card" that I will post a little closer to Christmas Day : ) I am so thankful that I have learned a fair amount about the birds in my area and have grown to respect and care about them more than when I was unaware and ignorant of what amazing wildlife surrounded me. Thank you ALL for sharing your superb images and for teaching me so much about your little corners of the world. Your beautiful photos inspire me so much, and hopefully I am learning and will continue to learn from you. Happy Christmas, everyone! Stay safe!
Thanks, fd, as always for this and all your other fun things!
Happy birthday, John

Just realized I had better upload this Happy Birthday card to my brother in England today, as I don't know when he will get to the Library in the next few days, to check on his e-mail and on Flickr! I deliberately chose an image that has nothing to do with Christmas, as his birthday is so close to Christmas - on 28th December. John, I thought you might find this small part of a mural quite interesting, seeing as you have always been highly artistic! It is just inside the entrance way at the Royal Tyrrell Museum (the incredible Dinosaur museum) in Drumheller, east of Calgary. Have a happy day!

Happy Birthday greetings for my Grandson who turns 8 years old on 22nd September 2008. This little Red Squirrel, out at Maclean Pond in Kananaskis, was letting me know in no uncertain terms that I was in HIS territory :).

Sorry, no roses, but hope this beautiful Amaryllis will add a little happiness to your day! Wishing all my local and far-away friends, my birding buddies, and my Flickr friends a very happy day. Hope you all get treated to something special - either by a loved one or yourself!
Happy Christmas, everyone!

Now, what else would you expect me to use other than BIRDS, LOL?!! These feathered friends join me in wishing each one of you Flickr Friends a very Happy Christmas and all the very best in the New Year! A special wish for those of you who may spend the holiday on your own - if so, perhaps you could go for a walk or a drive and take a special photo to post for me? My thanks to all my loyal Flickr visitors and to those of you who have taken a look at one or more of my photos at some time. Your interest keeps my enthusiasm alive and I have learned all sorts of things from seeing the stunning photos that you post. I'm really looking forward to sharing 2007 with you all. Have a happy, healthy, safe and peaceful time!
HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
