Happy Fence Friday, All Sheldonian Theatre & Clarendon Building, Oxford. Extracts from Wikipedia - "Sheldonian Theatre, located in Oxford, England, was built from 1664 to 1669 after a design by Christopher Wren for the University of Oxford. The building is named after Gilbert Sheldon, Warden of All Souls College and later chancellor of the University. Sheldon was the project's main financial backer. The theatre is used for music concerts, lectures and University ceremonies, but not for drama until 2015 when the Christ Church Dramatic Society staged a production of The Crucible by Arthur Miller." "The Clarendon Building designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor was built between 1711 and 1715. It was built to house the Oxford University Press. In 1829 the University police took over part of it as their police station with cells in the basement. It only became known as the Clarendon Building after it was adapted by the University for use as a registry in 1832. It continued as the university registry until the present University Offices were opened in Wellington Square in 1975. The Clarendon Building was then taken over by the Bodleian Library."

Happy Fence Friday, All. This is the Clarendon Building in Oxford. It was designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor and built between 1711 and 1715. It's a Grade I listed building. It was built to house the Oxford University Press and owes its name to the fact that it was partly paid for by the profits from the History of the Great Rebellion by Lord Clarendon. Lord Clarendon's son presented the University with its copyright. It was known as “The Printing House” until the University Press moved to Walton Street in 1832.

I was framing this shot and, suddenly, the lady walked into the scene. I was so surprised that I accidentally pressed the shutter!! But, no matter because it has reminded me of a song :-)) And, that is "Alone" by The Bee Gees. I still cannot believe that Barry Gibb is the only brother left. So sad. Mick has said this shot includes my signature 'red'. That is a much appreciated comment, Mick :-) Mick also suggests I could link this to “Red” by Daniel Merriweather. I have to admit to never having heard of Daniel but on the first hearing this is a very good song and an excellent recording :-) So, added to 'Soundtrack to Life' almost immediately :-) www.ipernity.com/group/362993 Watch/Listen here - www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1NCmDYeymo The Clarendon Building is on the right. t'other building is the Sheldonian Theatre. From Wikipedia - “The Clarendon Building is a landmark Grade I listed building in Oxford, England, owned by the University of Oxford. It was built between 1711 and 1715 to house the Oxford University Press. It stands in the centre of the city in Broad Street, near the Bodleian Library and the Sheldonian Theatre. In 1975 it was handed over to the Bodleian Library, and now provides office and meeting space for senior members of staff.” From Wikipedia - “The Sheldonian Theatre, located in Oxford, England, was built from 1664 to 1668 after a design by Christopher Wren for the University of Oxford.
