In 2013 Balliol College celebrated its 750th anniversary being founded in 1263. An extract from Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balliol_College,_Oxford follows - "Balliol College was founded by John I de Balliol under the guidance of the Bishop of Durham. After his death in 1268, his widow, Dervorguilla of Galloway made arrangements to ensure the permanence of the college in that she provided capital and in 1282 formulated the college statutes, documents that survive to this day."

The Dining Hall was designed by Alfred Waterhouse in 1877. Below is an extract from a College information pamphlet provided to visitors - "Balliol is not only arguably the oldest but arguably the leading intellectual College in Oxford - and therefore in the World. It has stood on a single site longer than any other college in the English-speaking world." It cost me the bargain price of just £1 to visit the college grounds and the Dining Hall :-) Very pleased with how the little 'ole Coolpix performed.....handheld at just 1/20 of a second :-)
