"Hell No (I'm Not Alright)"

04 Jun 2016 5 11 369
The lady from BBC Three Counties Radio was about to be transported up Kop Hill in one of the Ecurie Ecosse racing cars.....a D-Type Jaguar (thank you for identifying the car, Larry) driven by Dick Skipworth....pretty quickly as I remember!! I'm sure that behind the smile she was thinking "Hell No (I'm Not Alright)" :-))) This naturally leads to "Hell No (I'm Not Alright)" by Nanci Griffith :-) I think I may be falling in love with the lady singing harmony and playing the red and white guitar :-) Trouble is I have now discovered that her name is Maura Kennedy and Maura is married to Pete, the guy next to her :-( Added to ~ Sight and Sound ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ Listen here ~ Hell No (I'm Not Alright) ~ Nanci Griffith

"Take It To The Limit"

15 Apr 2016 11 10 637
I believe this is a 1965 4261cc Sunbeam Tiger Mk 1. The guy driving it was clearly taking it to the limit and this, of course, leads me to think of "Take It To The Limit" by The Eagles :-) Written by Randy Meisner, Don Henley and Glenn Frey. It is my favourite Eagles song and one of my all-time fave tracks. I applied a 'Lomoish' effect here that gives high-contrast with unusual saturation and it may be better on black, possibly :-) Added to ~ Sight and Sound ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ Listen here ~ Take It To The Limit ~ The Eagles

"Cosmic Girl "

If you look very, very, very closely you will see Jay Kay driving his £1million LaFerrari :-) I don't know if it is still the only green LaFerrari in the world but it certainly was when Jay Kay took delivery of it. My shot was taken at the Kop Hill Climb back in 2014. Here the car was on the way to the Start and only doing about 5 mph but I think I have managed to capture a little bit of movement in the wheel :-) LaFerrari is a limited production hybrid sports car capable of some 217 mph but it didn't reach top speed on the Hill :-) Jay Kay is, of course, lead singer with Jamiroquai. I don't know much about their music but I found a track called "Cosmic Girl" and methinks there is a vague connection 'cos there are some fast cars in the video :-) Added to ~ Sight and Sound ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ Listen here ~ Cosmic Girl ~ Jamiroquai For any petrolheads out there here is a link to some footage of the car at Goodwood LaFerrari at Goodwood

An obvious choice here....well it is for me :-) From Wikipedia - “California Dreamin' was written by John Phillips and Michelle Phillips and released as a single in 1965. The song is #89 in Rolling Stone 's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time” It is very sad to read that Michelle Phillips is the only surviving member of the Mamas & Papas. “Gypsy Rider”

I figure that finding another road where you've never been and singing that two-wheeled symphony allows me to link my motorcycle photo to “Gypsy Rider” by Gene Clark and Carla Olsen :-) "Crank her over once again Put your face into the wind Find another road where you're never been. Sing that two-wheeled melody The highway symphony You know she'll never understand." This track comes from the 1986 album “So Rebellious a Lover"........another of my all-time faves :-) Added to ~ Soundtrack to Life Listen here ~ Gypsy Rider ~ Gene Clark & Carla Olsen

I was looking thru' some archived shots and was wondering if I could match this shot, taken at the Kop Hill Climb in 2012, to a song about sunglasses! I wasn't for one minute thinking there would be a song about sunglasses on YouTube! Wrong again :-) Nothing against Tracey Ullman.... but, I don't think I will be purchasing this track from Amazon :-) Added to ~ Soundtrack to Life Listen here ~ Sunglasses ~ Tracey Ullman

It might look like Haurel & Lardy have a Christmas Tree in the back of their Ford Model T. And, that is absolutely correct!!!!! They were selling Christmas Trees “Buy One Get One Free”. I don't know why, but I didn't see anyone showing interest in this bargain buy :-)))))

Kop Hill Climb 2014 (4) Added to 'Soundtrack to Life' www.ipernity.com/group/362993 I know this is a pale blue Ford Thunderbird but for the purposes of 'Soundtrack to Life' we have to imagine that this is a 'Silver Thunderbird' 'cos that saves me trying to change its colour in Photoshop :-))) And, for me, the obvious link is “Silver Thunderbird” by Marc Cohn. I don't know why Marc is not spoken about in hushed tones in the same way as Jackson Browne, Rodney Crowell, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Paul Simon etc. would be :-) Marc has written some cracking songs in addition to "Silver Thunderbird" e.g. “Walking In Memphis”, “The Things We've Handed Down”, “Walk Through The World”, “Olana”, “Healing Hands”, “True Companion” …the list is endless :-) Watched it coming up Winslow Down South Park Boulevard Yeah it was looking good from tail to hood Great big fins and painted steel Man it looked just like the bat mobile With my old man behind the wheel Well you could hardly even see him in all of that chrome The man with the plan and the pocket comb But every night it carried him home And I could hear him saying Don't you give me no Buick Son, you must take my word If there's a God in heaven He's got a Silver Thunderbird You can keep your Eldorados And the foreign car's absurd Me, I wanna go down In a Silver Thunderbird................................. Here come the excuses :-))) Those peeps that have been to Kop Hill know that on the steeper part of the Hill you only get to see the cars/bikes at the last split second as they emerge from amongst the bushes and trees. It can also be quite dark in the shady bits! So, I just go with the flow and usually much prefer my blurry efforts as here :-)))
