Waddesdon Manor Statues

06 Sep 2022 10 14 200
There are lots and lots of statues/sculptures in the grounds of Waddesdon Manor. I have searched the internet and, apparently, the two main figures here are Proserpina and Pluto. I thought Pluto was Mickey Mouse's pet dog but clearly that is not correct here :-) Apparently, Proserpina is the Roman goddess of agriculture and the daughter of Jupiter & Ceres. And, Pluto is the God of the Underworld. I think the small figure is a 'Triton'. Presumably, Proserpina and Pluto are in love and on this basis I have chosen "Would You Like to Learn to Dance" by Steve Goodman for 'Sight & Sound'. One of my all time favourites. Probably one of the best love songs ever written, in my opinion. "Would you like to learn to love? Well, that's somethin' else again I can show you how to sing and smile and dance Oh I have no keys to open your heart And no way that I could make you take the chance And so we'll dance around the room again And we'll sing a tune or two to pass the time And smile a lot and if you really want to We can try a little lovin', I don't mind Try a little lovin', I don't mind, I don't mind" Added to Sight and Sound : Pictures & Music ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪ Listen here ~ Would You Like To Learn To Dance - Steve Goodman

I was in town on Monday but only had my 'iPod Touch' with me. So, I figured I would take a few test shots and go back later in the week with a 'proper' camera :-) However, the light was really good so I stayed with my iPod photos :-) I am, also, adding this photo to 'Sight and Sound'. Explored! Thank you very much :-) One from the archives where I got a bit carried away with filters :-)) The track that comes to mind is "Train Leaves Here This Morning". It was written by Gene Clark and Bernie Leadon. It was recorded by The Eagles and featured on their debut album from 1972. Anything by The Eagles is my fave but the version by Dillard and Clark from their 1968 album "The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard & Clark" is my absolute fave version :-) Also, the photo (shown in the video) on the cover of the vinyl copy of the album is one of my all time fave photos :-) I still have the vinyl album :-) Added to ~ Sight and Sound : Pictures & Music ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ Listen here ~ Train Leaves Here This Morning ~ Dillard & Clark Rest in Peace, Gene & Doug.

Extract from Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fantastic_Expedition_of_Dillard_%26_Clark - Music critic Matthew Greenwald, writing for Allmusic, called the album "perhaps [Clark's] most brilliant recording... The Andrew Wiles Building (Oxford University’s £70m Mathematical Institute facility) was formally opened on 3 October 2013. The building was designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects and constructed by Laing O'Rourke. It is called the Andrew Wiles Building in acknowledgement of one of Oxford’s most distinguished mathematicians. The building provides workspace for a diverse community of more than 500 mathematical researchers and support staff, including faculty, research fellows and postgraduate students. It is a centre for the academic life of approximately 900 undergraduates.

"Across The Great Divide"

09 Mar 2015 15 10 447
From Wikipedia - “Sark consists of two main parts, Greater Sark and Little Sark to the south. They are connected by a narrow isthmus called La Coupée which is 300 feet (91m) long and has a drop of 330 feet (100m) on each side. Protective railings were erected in 1900; before then, children would crawl across on their hands and knees to avoid being blown over the edge.” I figure this is like crossing the Great Divide hence a tenuous link to “Across the Great Divide” written by Kate Wolf and performed here by Nanci Griffith.
