"Mellow Yellow"

15 Mar 2015 29 29 730
~ Explored! ~ Thank you very much :-))) Whilst I was busy searching YouTube for music to go with one of my shots of 'The Shard' I suddenly saw this track by Donovan and thought “I have a shot in the archives where I went to town on mellow yellow 'colour popping'. And, guess what? Correct! I have found the shot taken in the Paris Metro very many moons ago :-) I see from Wikipedia that on 14 April 2012 Donovan was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame :-) Apparently, the song was rumoured to be about smoking dried banana skins, which was believed to be a hallucinogenic drug in the 1960's. I don't particularly like bananas unless they are cut up with cream and sugar so there's no chance of me being interested in the skins :-) Added to ~ Soundtrack to Life Listen here ~ Mellow Yellow ~ Donovan

Please allow me to explain why I ‘disappeared’ from ipernity. Back on 16 January this year Mum suffered a very serious stroke and bleed in the brain. Mum fought on for 9 weeks in Hospital before succumbing on 21 March. The funeral has been held and I have been sorting out Mum’s affairs including clearing her 'Housing Trust' bungalow. It has been a very long ‘journey’ but I now feel I am close to completing all that has to be done. I hope I can now start spending time on my fave hobby :-)

Biochemistry Building (University of Oxford)

01 Nov 2013 8 9 638
This was taken with my compact and ‘cos I was pointing the camera upwards the verticals and horizontals were all over the place :-)) I have tried to correct this in Photoshop but not entirely sure if I have fully succeeded :-)) This shot shows the main entrance. You do get different colours here but the colours tend to be more spectacular when taking shots of the other sides of the building. As with the rest of the building the colours change depending upon the light and the time of day. There is a café within the building and it has always surprised me that even though this is a University building anyone can just walk in and visit the café :-) From the Department of Biochemistry website - “The Biochemistry Department is part of the University of Oxford's Medical Sciences Division, the largest of the University's four academic divisions and ranked third in the world for Biomedicine. According to the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, 75% of research activity within the Department is rated world-class quality in terms of significance, rigour and originality, making it the highest rated Life Sciences Department within a UK university. The Department moved into a brand new purpose-built building during the Autumn of 2008 which was designed to promote interaction and collaboration as well as provide state-of-the-art facilities for all staff. There are about thirty-five academic staff, one hundred postdoctoral research workers and one hundred and fifty postgraduate students. Members of other departments also contribute to teaching, including lecturers in physiology, pathology, pharmacology, clinical biochemistry and zoology. Although large, the Department is not impersonal and has a friendly atmosphere.”

"Late for the Sky"

14 Sep 2013 11 14 491
Where on earth ‘ave I been since 1974??? I must have been in hibernation not to be familiar with “Late for the Sky” by Jackson Browne :-)) I am very familiar with such classic Jackson Browne songs as “rock me on the water”, “these days”, “take it easy“, “fountain of sorrow”, “running on empty”, “the pretender”, "doctor my eyes”, “jamaica say you will”………………But, until I recently picked up “Jackson Browne Greatest Hits” for £3 (total bargain!) from Sainsbury’s supermarket I simply wasn’t familiar with “Late for the Sky” !! But now, I think I have worn out the replay button :-))) The next thing was how to get this breathtaking and all-time classic song on “Soundtrack Weekend”. So, here comes one of my obscure links :-) This shot was taken late-ish in the day and it is mostly of the sky. So that is good enough for moi :-))) Watch/Listen here- www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvBhFc0BSjI

"Heart Like A Wheel"

16 Aug 2013 9 6 537
Added to ‘Soundtrack Weekend’ www.ipernity.com/group/362993 The Wheel in this shot is next to Startops End Reservoir. Seems logical to me, therefore, to link this with “Heart Like A Wheel” by Linda Ronstadt from her 1974 album of the same name. From Wikipedia - “Heart Like a Wheel is Linda Ronstadt's fifth solo album recording and the last of her studio projects for Capitol Records, released in late 1974. It is universally considered to be Ronstadt's all-time high-water-mark masterpiece recording and a pioneering blueprint of Country Rock. It spent 51 weeks on the Billboard album chart and has never been out of print in the now 38 years since its release.” Watch/Listen here - www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4edvNAtAwE I expect Linda to feature quite often in this Group :-)

From Wikipedia - “The Temple of Music is on an island in the lake, inspired by the Temple of Vesta in Rome. It was designed for Dashwood's fêtes champêtres, with the temple used as a theatre; the remains of the stage survive.”
