Explored! ~ Thank you very much :-))) Back to a warm sunny day :-) On the 9 August 2015 the new Visitor Centre was opened in Stowe House. Normally they don't like you walking/picnicking on the grass in front of the House but you had to walk on the grass to get to the Refreshments' Tent :-) It was very much like a 'Garden Party' and methinks this leads to "Garden Party" by Rick Nelson :-) I can't believe that 30 years ago on 31 December 2015 Rick Nelson died in a plane crash. Doesn't possibly seem that long ago. Maybe a slightly wayward link for 'Sight and Sound' :-) .......... In 1965 Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones, Jimmy Winston and Steve Marriott founded Small Faces. In 1966 Ian McLagan replaced Jimmy Winston as the band's keyboard player. At the end of 1968 Steve Marriott quit the band, apparently walking off the stage during a New Years Eve gig yelling "I quit". In 1969 a posthumous album, "The Autumn Stone", was issued and included unreleased tracks recorded for their intended album "1862". One of the tracks was "Autumn Stone". Tragically, Steve Marriott died in 1991 following a fire at his cottage. My photo was taken in the 'Autumn' and I'm sure 'Stone' was used in the building of Stowe House. Therefore, my 'Autumn Stone' entry to 'Sight and Sound is complete :-) Added to ~ Sight and Sound ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ Listen here ~ Autumn Stone ~ Small Faces

~ Explored! ~ Thank you very much :-))) View from the Eastern Lake Pavilion. From the National Trust's Stowe Leaflet - "The grand gardens of Stowe were created by Lord Cobham, a highly influential 18th century aristocrat and politician. At the height of their wealth and power, the Cobham family was richer than the King, and the gardens at Stowe were a bold statement to show this. The gardens quickly became one of the country's first tourist attractions"

Extract from www.stowe.co.uk/house - “From sixteenth-century sheep farmers to nineteenth-century dukes, the Temple-Grenville family made their name by marrying heiresses and following their political ambitions. They were able to work their way up the title ladder and make their mark on north Buckinghamshire with the creation of Stowe. The history of the Stowe estate is a long one and its magnificence is still visible today, despite the decline in the family's fortunes. Saved by the creation of Stowe School in 1923, both the house and gardens are undergoing long-term restoration, and are visited by thousands of people every year.”

Music Room

Added to 'Soundtrack to Life' www.ipernity.com/group/362993 This is the State Music Room at Stowe House. If this room were to reflect the best music............EVER it would be a pretty impossible task but would surely include copies of - “Pet Sounds” The Beach Boys “Forever Changes” Love “White Light” Gene Clark “Sweethearts of the Rodeo” The Byrds “Highway 61 Revisited” Bob Dylan “The Band” The Band “Elite Hotel” Emmylou Harris “Late for The Sky” Jackson Browne And, topping the list for me would be “No Other” by Gene Clark. It seems to me that it has taken the best part of 40 years for this album, released in 1974, to be recognised as the masterpiece that it is. Tragically Gene is not here to know because he passed away in 1991 at only 46 years old. From Wikipedia - "Harold Eugene "Gene" Clark was a founding member of the The Byrds and was The Byrds' dominant songwriter between 1964 and early 1966, penning most of the band's best-known originals from this period, including "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better", "She Don't Care About Time", "Set You Free This Time", and "Eight Miles High". On the basis of the quality of Clark's Byrds contributions, David Geffen signed him to Asylum Records in early 1974. Gene retired to Mendocino to compose the songs that became his masterpiece, “No Other”. Produced by Thomas Jefferson Kaye with a vast array of session musicians and backing singers, the album was an extraordinary amalgam of country rock, folk, gospel, soul and choral music with poetic, mystical lyrics. The album wasn't a conventional pop/rock opus and only seemed to have limited public appeal. Its production costs of $100,000 which yielded only eight tracks prompted Geffen to berate Clark and Kaye. The album was minimally promoted and stalled in the charts. By 1976 Asylum had deleted it from their catalog. Gene never recovered from the failure of the album. Ultimately, “No Other” became a favourite of rock critics, growing in popularity with each passing year. In 2013, popularity arguably reached a fever pitch when it was revealed that members of Beach House, The Walkmen, Grizzly Bear, and Fleet Foxes among others would be performing the album in its entirety." I am totally gutted that I have just missed a possibility of seeing the “Gene Clark No Other Band” play the album live in the UK!!! But the saving grace is that the whole concert from the Music Hall of Williamsburg is on YouTube and I hope against hope that it stays there forever :-))) For this upload to 'Soundtrack to Life' I have chosen the title track and it does really need to be played through headphones :-))) And, I think I might already be in love with Victoria, Cricket and Jenn :-) Watch/Listen here - www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHoZr0cXO68 And, the original version from Gene - www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YULwbhga18

From the National Trust website - "Owned by one family for almost 350 years, whose story takes in royal visits, family feuds and debt, Stowe is a breathtakingly beautiful creation of the 18th century. It's also one of the first and foremost of the great English landscape gardens. It reflects the work of two people in particular: Lord Cobham and his nephew, Earl Temple."
