World Photography Day 2024 (Blue Leanie)

25 Aug 2024 19 25 240
Hopefully, I did correctly read that it's okay to add photos to 'World Photography Day' until the end of August as long as the photo was taken on 19th :-) On 19th it was quite dull and overcast and I thought I would wait until the sun made an appearance before heading out. It wasn't looking promising so late in the afternoon I walked into town hoping the light would be okay. I was struggling to find a subject and realised the, so called, 'Blue Leanie' building was undergoing alteration/renovation and I thought I ought to be able to find a photo opportunity here. I'm sure there are better photo opportunities here once the alterations/renovation are complete and I will be trying more shots when all is complete and the sun shines :-))) Part of the complex does lean at an acute angle hence the 'Blue Leanie' title but clearly not this section that I photographed:-)

Explored! Thank you very much :-) SATURDAY SELF-CHALLENGE 8 JUNE 2019 STATUES AND MONUMENTS Plan A, on Wednesday, was to go to Oxford where there are lots of monuments and statues. Things started off okay with lovely warm sunshine but by the time I got to Oxford the sun was being obscured by thick cloud. I took photos of several statues and monuments but the photos were pretty disappointing :-( Plan B on Thursday was to look around Aylesbury, my hometown, after being at the barbers. I came across this scene but only had my phone with me. I thought I could come back another day with my camera but, in the meantime. I grabbed a few shots. After looking at the photos on the computer I decided to stick with this shot :-) This is one of three statues inspired by the Paralympics. Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury is considered to be the birthplace of the Paralympics. The following words come from information supplied by Aylesbury Vale District Council - "The Paralympic movement was born at Stoke Mandeville Hospital thanks to the hard work and dedication of Dr. Ludwig Guttmann. Dr. Guttmann was asked by the British government to set up a spinal injuries centre at the Stoke Mandeville Hospital in order to care for and assist those who had been injured during the war. In 1948 Dr Guttmann organised the first competition for wheelchair athletes which he named the Stoke Mandeville Games. He held this competition on the same day as the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in London and 16 injured servicemen and women took part in an archery competition. Eventually the games expanded to include more sports and evolved to accommodate athletes from countries all over the world. In 1960 the International Stoke Mandeville Games officially became the Paralympic Games in time for the 1960 summer games in Rome." PLEASE KEEP POST-PROCESSING MINIMAL" I did use a black and white shot of this building for the "High Contrast in Black & White" SSC Challenge back in June. I decided to take another shot of the building for this week's challenge. I would have liked to have said it took me "Just One Look" to come up with a different viewpoint but after taking lots of photos I decided upon a very similar viewpoint :-) For 'Sight and Sound' I figure I can use "Just One Look" by Linda Ronstadt :-) Added to Sight and Sound : Pictures & Music ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ Listen here ~ Just One Look ~ Linda Ronstadt (Live version) ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ Listen here ~ Just One Look ~ Linda Ronstadt (Studio version)

Explored! Thank you very much :-) SATURDAY SELF-CHALLENGE 23 JUNE 2018 "HIGH CONTRAST IN BLACK & WHITE" Thought this building in Aylesbury might work for this week's challenge. I was in town on Monday but only had my 'iPod Touch' with me. So, I figured I would take a few test shots and go back later in the week with a 'proper' camera :-) However, the light was really good so I stayed with my iPod photos :-) I am, also, adding this photo to 'Sight and Sound'. The building is the County Offices in Aylesbury where I once worked :-) I think "In Tall Buildings" by John Hartford is a logical link :-) Added to ~ Sight and Sound : Pictures & Music ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ Listen here ~ In Tall Buildings ~John Hartford Probably best to view on black :-)

Explored! ~ Thank you very much :-))) I rarely take photos in my home-town 'cos, in my opinion, there ain't much to photograph. But, I thought this scene was okay...ish :-) The building on the left is new and is part of Bucks University/Aylesbury College. Clearly the building in the background is a Travelodge :-) This was the boat basin but the majority of narrowboats now live in a new boat basin on the outskirts of town. We only see the occasional narrowboat here now. I came across "Reflections" by Xenesthis. I don't know anything about them but as there are some 'reflections' in my photo I immediately thought of linking the photo and the music for 'Sight and Sound', as you would :-) Added to ~ Sight and Sound ♫ ♪ ♪ ♫ Listen here ~ Reflections ~ Xenesthis
