Glowing Heart of a California Poppy (+3 insets!)

(+3 insets!) The Vaccines are Rolling Out! Here in Oregon, the approved Covid-19 vaccine is being distributed to more and more at-risk people with each passing day. We learned that at some point there will be a mass-distribution for the general public to be given from our county fairground. As far as I can tell, it will be April/early spring before we get our shots, but who can say? Right now the vaccine is ear-marked for anyone at risk and that's fine by us. How lucky we are to be healthy and remote without the risks so many others are exposed to every day. I wonder what it's like around the world. Have you been vaccinated yet? Any idea when you'll get your first dose? In any event, we're very encouraged that, despite the problems with organizing the rollout, the approved vaccine is slowly finding its way into millions of desperately risky people! I sure do hope you're not in that group but if you are, here's hoping you are now vaccinated or will be very soon! Today's Picture This is the heart of a pastel-colored California Poppy (along with insets that show the whole stunning blossom!). These flowers are normally orange but there are hybrid colors too , including this gorgeous pale variety known as "Linen". We've tried growing the hybrid colors but with exception of the orange varieties and this kind, none have bloomed for us. Too bad, the different colors are so pretty! But in the end, who can complain about ANY California Poppy?! This one is a stunner! :) Explored on 1/17/21; highest placement #1.

(+2 insets!) Steve and I are heading out in a few minutes and I have just enough time to get my pictures posted. Excuse my extremely short write-up, I will be leaving in just a few minutes! *SQUEEEEE*!!! :) We are so excited! Our campground is only about 45 minutes away but it's on a lake that we know and love. It will be such fun to stay there for three days instead of just driving home like usual. We'll be bringing our bikes this time--there's a trail around the lake!! There is hiking to be had as well so we've packed our hiking boots, yay! We can hardly wait to get out of here…the check-in time is 4pm so we've had plenty of time to get our last-minute things packed and ready to go. What's really nice too is that we're so much more relaxed this time around because we've done this once already. :) Today I'm posting several macros of especially eye-catching California Poppies in orange and cream and an unusual seed pod that attracts visitors with it's incredibly colorful seed pods! I hope you like them! Pam, I loved your comments about my rusty pictures, I'm so glad you enjoyed them and also, that you love rusty subjects too. :) Thanks for letting me know what your lizard was sitting on! I hope that your day goes well my dear! You'll be in my thoughts as we head out for another adventure! :) *BIG HUGS* Explored on 5/7/19, highest placement, #3.

(+1 in a note) I got a mixture of California Poppy seeds that I planted in my raised bed garden back in 2013. One day I visited my flowers and found this stunning blossom...what a beauty! I have since gotten seeds of many other colors and hopefully I will see some of them too one day...cross your fingers! :)

If you think of a California Poppy, the image of a brilliantly orange flower should pop into your head. However, did you know that they come in other colors too?! When I planted my raised bed garden a couple of years ago, I got an enormous mix of poppy seeds, which included normal California poppies and some other types as well. Only one other type appeared, but what a gorgeous plant it was!! And how perfect that the first bloom opened on the Fourth of July!! This is a White Linen California Poppy, and I'm happy to say that it came back last year, and I I'm looking forward to more lovely blossoms this year too! (By the way, if you would like to order seeds, I was very pleased by the offerings from the Vermont Wildflower Farm .)

The garden I grew a couple of years ago was absolutely breathtaking in the number and variety of flowers it produced. Every morning I ventured out to see the new arrivals and sometimes I simply couldn't believe my eyes for all the blossoms everywhere! The most common flowers were two different types of poppies--corn poppies and California poppies--and I planned it that way by sprinkling hundreds upon hundreds of seeds over the whole garden before I planted any other seeds. I knew they would grow and produce flowers because they did so well in my small front garden. However, I was not prepared for the volume of flowers in so many colors...it was an incredible sight! This is one of the lovely California poppy blossoms I captured one morning after it rained the night before. I adore these flowers, and I'm delighted that they are very slowly beginning to spread by themselves outside the garden. They are very prolific all over southern Oregon, but the one time I tried to plant them in a wildflower mix around our property, not even one grew. It seems that I am finally going to get my wish of having these lovely orange beauties add sparkle to our property!

Today was another Sunday Lunch Ride with Steve and the Velo Bike Club, and we put in 30 miles by day's end! Before the ride I had a minute or two to take pictures and found a bunch of California Poppies! I got a bunch of nice images and this is the one Steve liked the best! :) Victor Marie Hugo (26 February 1802 – 22 May 1885) was a French poet, novelist, and dramatist of the Romantic movement. He is considered one of the greatest and best known French writers. In France, Hugo's literary fame comes first from his poetry but also rests upon his novels and his dramatic achievements. Among many volumes of poetry, Les Contemplations and La Légende des siècles stand particularly high in critical esteem. Outside France, his best-known works are the novels Les Misérables, 1862, and Notre-Dame de Paris, 1831 (known in English as The Hunchback of Notre-Dame).
