19/366: Jagged Edges

Steve and I visited a friend's garden a couple of years ago, and I frolicked there for several hours with my camera. I was captivated by the variety of flowers and plants along with the myriad insects that stopped by. This blossom is from a member of the carnation family, formally known as the Dianthus genus, and has about 300 species. This was the first time I had a chance to capture the beauty of this stunning flower, and I spent quite a while appreciating it from all angles. I especially loved this view, which shows off those jagged petal edges so well! Explored on ipernity on January 21, 2016. Highest placement, #29.

Sea of Pink

I got to visit a beautiful garden at one of my friend's homes last week, and she had a huge patch of gorgeous dianthus blossoms. This is one of my favorite pictures and my challenge was to get the front edge of a blossom in focus so that the only thing crisp and clear was the jagged edges which, to me, is one of the most defining characteristics of this lovely flower!
