Tiny Droplet High Above, Oh My! (well, about 1" of…

Yesterday afternoon the weather cleared enough to take the dogs on a walk around the property, and I spotted a wonderful little sprout that I thought would make a nice picture for today. However, when I was taking the picture of the leaves, I noticed a glimmer just above it, and when I changed my focus, this is what I saw! :D

I planted bulbs in the front yard in November and they have started to sprout with anticipation of Spring, which is still just a dream in the future. Frost and frozen droplets, caught in dramatic morning light, made my shot of the day! Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849) was an American author, poet, editor and literary critic, considered part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story and is considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre. He is further credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction. He was the first well-known American writer to try to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in a financially difficult life and career. Wikipedia: Edgar Alan Poe

Frosted Sprouting Bulbs

I was so happy with the bokeh in this shot and the beautiful detail of the frost on the sprouting leaf on the left, but the right one is slightly out of focus. :(

Birth of An Oak

One day I was taking some pictures of mushrooms and noticed something odd in the background. Leaning closer and lifting a leaf to get a better view, this is what I saw! Some day this little sprout might be a 30-foot Oak tree, dropping acorns of its own for another generation to follow!

Tiny Sprouting Leaves on a Bed of Moss

This pair of leaves is only about 1/4" across, and to give you an idea of the scale, those tiny green things are sprigs of moss! Take a look at the really tiny moss on the lower right! AMAZING!! :D To see where the blade of grass is with the droplet of water on it, move your cursor to the upper left of the upper sprouting leaf. The droplet is just a little circle!

Flash of Red!

As I was looking around our massive, moss-covered rock area of our property, I noticed a flash of red. I thought I could just walk forward and turn around, but when I did, I couldn't see the red thing anymore. So I carefully backed up until I was in the same spot, and looked again very carefully. FLASH! There it was! I knelt down to take a closer look, and growing in a bed of drying moss was this pretty little sprout, complete with a pair of bright red leaves at the base! (Is that you waving at me, Lisa?! ) I wonder what this plant will become?! :)
