This is a mini butterfly called a Skipper, or more specifically, a Desert Cloudywing, Achalarus casica Thanks to Phil Huntley-Franck for identification information!

Here is an image from my archives, a glowing orange skipper (inbetween a butterfly and a moth) sitting on a leaf. I found this one when Steve and I visited an arboretum in the town of Rogue River.
