265/366: Alien Monster...no...It's a Daisy Bud!

I love the abstractness of a bud that's just beginning to open. It's hard to recognize what it is at first. They look to me like a hungry monster with a mouth full of teeth! Another thing that surprised me was how cool opening buds look as a close-up. I never realized how interesting the details would be! This is another flower from my friend's garden that I captured a few years ago.

My friend Elaine has a fantastic garden at her home in Ashland, and I spent a day back in 2013 taking pictures. Instead of getting this whole spike of flowers in the picture, I thought it would be nice to focus on just a few of the blossoms to show them off. :)

What a gorgeous pink these flowers are. When I saw them at my friend's garden, I thought they seemed familiar but I'd never seen them before. When I bent down to give them a sniff, it hit me...CARNATION FAMILY! Of course! Since then, I've learned that the Carnation family (also known as dianthus) is quite large, with species of many sizes and shapes as well.

Another picture from my friend's garden, this is a peony that was glowing in the afternoon light. These are such big flowers, and the first time I'd seen them up close. Very impressive!

This is another flower I photographed at my friend's garden in Ashland a few years ago. The way the petals look, this resembles a cross to me! :)

This lovely little orange flower grabbed my attention with its many-shaded petals. I loved this view because it shows off the details of the sepal edges too, but at some point I'll also post one from in front too. It's beautiful from every angle. :)
(Taken at my friend Elaine Sweet's garden in 2013:)
245/366: Perfectly Beautiful Hosta (+1 in a note)

(+1 in a note above)
Wonderful, wonderful Hosta, this gorgeous ornamental plant is grown primarily for its large and beautiful foliage. This type, with green leaves and white edging, is more common, but these plants are found in a number of lovely colors and combinations, including solid green in different shades, yellow, green and yellow, and all shades of green and white or green and cream.
I took this picture at my friend Elaine Sweet's garden. I got another image as well, and if you would like to see it, just roll your mouse over the upper left corner of this image.

Steve and I have a friend who told us about the Ashland Garden Tour, because her garden was selected as one of the featured gardens. Steve and I went to visit her a week before the tour and I spent hours taking pictures that day. These lovely blue asters were just one of the countless beauties in her garden!
