Soggy Birds!

22 Jan 2012 318
It has been raining like cats and dogs the past couple of days and even though we hoped for snow, we're very happy to see the downpour, as it's been unseasonably dry this year and we need the rain badly. However, the birds are getting a little tired of the wet conditions! I couldn't resist taking pictures and you know, I don't think they are very impressed with me! :D :D :D This image was taken in January, 2012.

OMG...this house finch is so fluffy that it may just explode! :D I don't think I've seen a fluffier finch in my life...and I've seen quite a few! Best of all, I was somehow able to fit all of his enormous bulk into the frame so I can share this sight with you too! :) This image was taken in December, 2011.

House Finch with Orange Coloring

17 Jan 2012 1 1 249
Look at this gorgeous bird!! And look at the orange coloring!! House Finches usually have red coloring, but depending on what they eat, and on the season, they can have coloring in tones of yellow, gold, and orange. Steve and I think they are just stunning, what do you think?! This image was taken in January, 2012.

Bathtime for Birdies!

01 Oct 2012 293
Outside our kitchen window we have our bird feeders and a bunch of plastic trays which we keep full with water for the birds. Every day we get to watch them drinking taking baths too, and it's one of the cutest things to watch! :D This is a male and female house finch (the male is the one with red on it)

Mr. and Mrs. House Finch Ready to Start a Family!

25 Feb 2013 2 445
Such a lovely pair! These finches are our most common visitor and are seen all year-round at our bird feeders. These are House Finches but Steve and I are pretty sure we also see Purple Finches and Cassin's Finches too, but telling the difference is really hard, so whenever I have a question about the species of bird, I ask the Bird Forum! If you'd seen my original title for this picture, it only said "Mr. and Mrs. Finch", but after I got some replies to my question , I was able to label them correctly! :D I love these guys!!! Such a helpful, wonderful group of people!!! :)
