While I was taking pictures, I found this tiny poppy with half of its pod casing missing. Being only about 1/3" in size, and very low to the ground, I hoped to take an interesting picture which included some of the other plants and flowers nearby. I wanted to try a textured image and after trying several filters, Photoshop's "Oil Paint" filter was just what I was after! I hope you like it too! :)

1 note with text and 1 picture above in a note! This is a really fun image to me because there a lot of neat elements going on! On the right side, you can see the seed head of "Miss Poppy", which was the first poppy to bloom the other day. Up top is another outrageously red poppy in all of its glory. Down below is a very small red poppy and sitting on the petals is one half of the pod casing that held the top blossom! What are the odds that pod case would land and stay on the flower below?! I was amazed to see this, and especially happy that this picture turned out so well! :)

1 picture in a note above! :) When I went out this morning, I saw this poppy just about to open, with its pod casing straining like a suitcase about to explode! I ran into the house! I ran out of the house with my camera! I zoomed over to the poppy...BOOOOOOO!!!!!! I MISSED IT!!! This beautiful poppy JUST opened up and you know, I think I heard it laughing at me! RUDE!!! :D I did get a picture of it just after opening, but it was from the other side, and this one shows another poppy peeking out from the background and adds nice color and balance to the image.

It's hard to capture the intense beauty of these flowers with pictures because to truly understand how special poppies are, you must be there to see them with your own eyes. However, I hope that my three images have done this blossom enough justice that you get the basic idea! :) Here you can see a close-up of the golden anthers, covered in pollen and ready for visitations by bees, flower flies, pollen-loving wasps and other insects! And how lucky I am to have such a lovely flower to admire! ) Poppies take my breath away!!!

I was out early enough to beat the sun's first rays, and as I began taking pictures, the sun twinkled over the hill and kissed this beautiful poppy with rays of golden light. I took this picture seconds after the sun shone upon the petals!

3 pictures in notes above! :) After examining the plants that sprouted from the seeds I planted a couple of months ago, and I am thrilled to announce that there are no less than a DOZEN poppy plants of various sizes! This morning I stepped out of the house and all I could see was this new, gorgeous poppy that had opened up overnight!! It is entirely different than the red poppy that bloomed a few days ago, and it has two layers of petals which are edged in cream! The color is also unique! It's not pink and it's not red, but a bit of both, and extremely beautiful! This picture was taken soon after the sun crested the hill behind our house, lighting up the colors and making the petals a brilliant hot pink-red! WOW!! Today and tomorrow are very special because they mark the halfway point of my 365 project!! I'm overjoyed that I've made it this far and also that I'm still excited for each day's new Picture of the Day! It's been a challenge to keep myself from overdoing it and burning out, but I'm doing fine with my self-imposed restrictions. It was a smart plan, but I still find myself very annoyed when I want to keep taking pictures but I force myself to stop.
