Snowy Oak in the Icy Mist (one inset image!)

1 picture above in a note! :) I looked out into the meadow this morning and saw the frosty mist rising up around the lone Oak there. Even though I have taken pictures of this tree in the mist before, I thought it would be wonderful to have a picture where it has snow on its branches and very few leaves! :) (roll your mouse over the image above to see the other misty Oak picture I posted a while ago!)

Oak Tree in the Mist

A couple of days ago when I went out into the frosty morning to take pictures, I wandered past the beautiful Oak tree that lives in our large meadow and was taken by the misty scene. Turning the image into a sepia tone gave this image the magical, moody quality I saw that morning! :) Explored on November 25, 2013. Highest placement, page 8...

Foggy Clearing At the Top of Mt. Davidson

20 Sep 2011 211
Halfway between the Cross and the clearing ahead, I stopped to take this picture of the eucalyptus trees with the fog blowing through the branches, with the blue sky beyond. Such beauty! This image was taken during my trip to San Francisco during September 12-15, 2011.

(I am using archive pictures for this project, and what a nice way to share some older pictures that turned out nicely!) Do a search for Monte Verde Cloud Forest in Costa Rica some time and you'll be surprised how similar foggy Mt. Davidson looks in comparison! Dead Eucalyptus Tree

I was stunned to see this tree skeleton atop Mt. Davidson and spent a long while taking many pictures of this beautiful old relic. This image was taken during my trip to San Francisco during September 12-15, 2011.

Eucalyptus Leaf 2

Here is the other leaf I mentioned yesterday. It was on a large, lichen-splotched boulder and was not placed by me, nor did I clean up the scene! Isn't nature amazing? This image was taken during my trip to San Francisco during September 12-15, 2011.

Rattlesnake Grass

Did you know that this weed actually makes a sound similar to a rattlesnake when blowing in the wind? This image was taken during my trip to San Francisco during September 12-15, 2011.

Mt. Davidson Cross Against Sun

20 Sep 2011 238
The cross at the top of Mt. Davidson isn't very fancy, but it is very tall and spectacular! There used to be illegally placed climbing spikes leading all the way to the top so that those who were bold enough could climb up to the top, provided they had proper climbing gear. On top there is a rusty lunch box with a note book inside for people to sign their names. I have never climbed up there, but one of my brothers and his friend did! I would be too terrified to do such a thing but this feat would be a memory to last a lifetime! Every Easter, there is a special service held here, and it's caused lots of controversy over the years. At one point there was pressure to remove the cross, but thankfully this didn't happen. Whether or not you are religious, this cross is an amazing monument to behold and it would be a tragedy to lose this very special landmark. It can be seen from across the city on a clear day! Fog and Mist with Steam on the Meadow

31 Dec 2011 7 3 454
(For Sunday Challenge: Since it is ok to use an old picture, I thought I'd toss this one in, as I really love love love the mist coming up off the meadows and the fog in the background. The b/w adds to the magic of this picture, so it's one of my most memorable weather pictures!) A few days ago I went out to take frost images, but after I got back inside, I looked out the kitchen window and saw steam rising up off the meadow next to our property. It was so awesome looking that I turned around, put my boots back on, grabbed the camera, and took some pictures!

I looked out this morning and gasped in surprise at the sight of the fog feathering its way over and around the hills of the valley where we have our home. I immediately thought of the Misty Mountains from The Hobbit, and lost myself in the memories of that great story and also of the movie we'd recently gone to see and loved so much! The quote I used is from an amazing poem in "The Hobbit," one of my all-time favorite books. If you would like to read the whole poem, it can be found here: The Misty Mountains John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, CBE (3 January 1892 – 2 September 1973) was an English writer, poet, philologist, and university professor, best known as the author of the classic high fantasy works The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion. I looked outside this morning and was amazed at what I saw! A thick layer of fog was drifting lazily through our valley, with only a few trees in the distance able to make themselves seen through the mist. I wanted to capture this lovely sight and went for a walk around our property to find this image waiting for me. A view across our next-door neighbor's meadow with a pair of oak trees and the road disappearing into the fog.
