Jan Lacy: Grinning Turtle Face with Extreme Bokeh

(By the way, if you don't know what "bokeh" means, it's artistic blurring of the background to enhance the subject of the image.) Jan Lacy: This Schnauzer Nose Knows

(I intentionally focused on this dog's nose with a very narrow depth of field so everything but its nose dropped off into blur.) Clayfolk Art Show!! This is Jan Lacy: Pug Head

01 Dec 2011 226
This is Day 6 of my Clayfolk Art Show exhibit! I started with Lorene Senesac, Rhonda Hampton, Steve Kirkland, Bruce Finch and Vera Rogers. Tonight's featured artist is Jan Lacy, who was so much fun that my husband and I kept going back to her booth to chatter away with her! Jan has a sparkling personality, and is also a very gifted artist, focusing a real passion into every piece she creates. She specializes in a variety of hand-sculpted impressionist art, including dog heads, turtles, frogs, and inlaid, folded-clay mugs and ikebana (Japanese for "to arrange flower") trays. Jan's dog heads are fantastic! When I visited her booth, I was immediately blown away by the number of different breeds of dogs she had on display! I absolutely adore the character present on each face; it's obvious how much she loves dogs. Jan also sculpts wonderful, happy turtles and frogs that make me smile from ear to ear, mirroring the smiles on every one of her creations! Jan's newest creations are her extremely cool mugs and trays which feature inlaid, folded clay in rich, intensely beautiful earth tone colors. They remind me of sand art or mokume-gane (Japanese for "burl metal") and are unforgettable and stunning. I have 8 images of Jan's artwork here, and I hope that you will take the time to look at each one, as they are all special and memorable!
