Here is something different! This is called Orange Jelly Fungus, and it grows on moist logs and decaying matter. They often look a bit like little jelly candy, and I thought this one looks like a goldfish's tail!

Woodland Star Bud Waving Hello

[best appreciated at full size against black] While Steve and I were looking around for wildflowers on the Upper Table Rock, Steve said he found a really neat flower bud and I came over to see. The sun was shining through the stem and as I took this picture, I noticed that it was waving hello! :) This image was taken in March, 2012.

Cute Little Orange Jelly Fungus

One day while walking the dogs, I looked over our fence to the next property, and saw some wonderful orange fungus growing on a stump there! I didn't want to hop the fence for a picture, so I began to look on our property for this weird-looking stuff. I found a itty bitty growth in one spot but it just wasn't good enough. Then, the other day, while hunting around in the darker part of our lower forest, I hit pay dirt!! This little guy is only about 1/2" tall and was found with another one nearby! :D Orange Jelly is a common fungus that can be found on dead conifer logs and stumps. When mature, they produce spores all over their surface much like the gills of mushrooms.
