In the heart of springtime, our big meadow turns pink with the blossoms of Shortspur Seablush. This is my attempt to show the beauty of this display!
Shortspur Seablush: The 32nd Flower of Spring!

I have been looking for this flower to show its pretty pink face, where it's found growing in our large meadow. This tiny bud cluster is only about 1/3" in diameter, and will open to be about an inch wide, but the remarkable thing about this flower is that it turns our large meadow pink with thousands of lovely little blossoms!
Shortspur Seablush is also known as Rosy Plectritis and is an annual herb in the Valerian family. (It's not the type harvested as the sleep and relaxation herb, valarian root, which is Valeriana officinalis) This common plant is found in western North America from Vancouver Island to Southern California.

Our big meadow is now turning pink as the beautiful Shortspur Seablush blossoms are beginning to bloom! What a show this is to watch! This morning I was walking back from the mailbox and saw this an individual that was growing by itself at the edge of the road. It was one of those flashes where I noticed something special out of the corner of my eye and stopped in my tracks, backed up and saw this! I think it looks like a pink torch! :)

Today I decided to stroll around our large meadow to see what had changed while I'd been to San Francisco. So many new flowers, as well as the last beautiful display to appreciate from the Buttercups and Houndstongue flowers. As I headed back to the house, I walked up the middle of the meadow so that I could enjoy the stunning pink show by the Seablush blossoms. I kept stopping to stare in wonder at how incredibly beautiful all the flowers were, and at one point I was scanning the flowers when my gaze stopped on this butterfly! I didn't waste a second and started taking pictures and creeping closer as I went. Then, quick as a flash, the butterfly was gone, but I had a very happy smile on my face because I was pretty sure I got some clear pictures! In fact, I got several winners, woo hoo!!! :D
