Did you know that many flower buds, perhaps as many as half, are covered with fuzz? I will toss a guess that it helps to protect the flower inside from insect attacks, but it may also protect the tender bud from rain accummulating into large droplets which might sit for hours and cause deteriation. In any event, I love the "hairy" appearance! This is a rose bud preparing to open in July, 2012.

[+1 in a note above] I adore shallow depth of field images of flower buds. To me, they look like strange, alien eyes or an alien with a round mouth of teeth. The textures and details of a bud are so surprising because they reveal so much more than can usually be seen with the naked eye. I liked this particular bud enough that I created two different crops: this one, and a vertical. If you roll over the upper right corner of this image, you will see the other version. Which do you like better? (That is, if you like either of them! :D)

I love the shapes of forming flower buds. They are so varied and sometimes they don't look anything like a bud at all. These are a perfect example—they look like some sort of strange triple-headed space alien! I took this picture during the garden tour that Steve and I went on a few years ago in Ashland. Looking at these buds and the fine detail I got, I really wanted to process the image. However, the background was a white garage door, which meant it would be a perfect opportunity for a textured background! I'm really happy with the result—what do you think? :) Explored on August 2, 2016. Highest placement, #59.

Oh, it's been another one of those crazy days!! Steve hosted another Sunday Lunch Ride and I was in absolute HEAVEN, riding in gorgeous Rogue River! So wonderful to be home! Got to take hundreds of pictures with my beloved Mark II, so happy to have it with me once again! Once we got home, there wasn't much time to look at my pictures before I was working on an important project that could not wait. I've only stopped long enough to finish this picture and put it up on my stream! I hope that things will calm down soon, as I am missing your photostreams and want to catch up with all of you!!! This picture was taken at the Palmerton Arboretum in Rogue River, and I think these look like alien pods from outer space!! :D I wish I had more time to put up some more pictures, I got zillions of wonderful images to share!
