Father & Son and Words About Wisdom [Explore]

20 Dec 2012 1 297
Once I discovered that our forest is full of little enchanted mushroom people, I am very quiet and careful when I visit, and sometimes I'll see them gliding around the floor like little magical sprites. On this day I peered around a tree and found these two staring out into the trees. I listened and could just hear that it was a father and son having a conversation. "Father, how do you get wisdom?" asked the young mushroom as he stood close and wondered about the world. "My son, wisdom is experience that you gather over the course of your life...but here are some words to think about from a truly wise old man: There are three methods to gaining wisdom. The first is reflection, which is the highest. The second is limitation, which is the easiest. The third is experience, which is the bitterest. ~ Confucius The son leaned on his father's shoulder and sighed, thinking about the words. I crept away then to leave them alone, and smiled to myself. There is much to be learned from these mushrooms! :) Thanks to all of you who have visited and have left comments and favorites! I try to go to all of your pages within a day or two (when I'm not buried in work) and is a highlight for me to see your beautiful photography! :) Explored on December 20, 2012. Glowing, Ghostly Mushroom

Our lower forest has two different areas. One area is more open and lets in much more light. The other part is darker and stays wetter, and thus, is a haven for mushrooms! As I was walking around one day, I looked down and discovered a whole colony of beautiful white mushrooms growing up through the fallen leaves. This one was about 1/2 an inch tall! :)

You never know what you'll find when you walk quietly in a meadow. On a wet and rainy morning, you might just find a mushroom enjoying the beautiful day and thinking about the words of great philosophers. I heard him whispter this as I quietly took my picture and passed by, "Wisdom begins in wonder." ~ Socrates By the way, I've uploaded two other pictures today and I hope you'll visit them too! Thanks to all of you who have visited and have left comments and favorites! I try to go to all of your pages within a day or two and is a highlight for me to see your beautiful photography! :) (I've been very busy with my current graphic design project but I'm planning to visit as many of you as I can today!)

Another mushroom picture that evokes a quote! Do you know who Harriet Tubman was? From Wiki: Harriet Tubman (born Araminta Harriet Ross; 1820 – March 10, 1913) was an African-American abolitionist, humanitarian, and Union spy during the American Civil War. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped and subsequently made more than thirteen missions to rescue more than 70 slaves using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. If you would like to read more about this remarkable woman, Wiki's article is great: Wiki: Harriet Tubman Thanks to all of you who have visited and have left comments and favorites! The Kiss [Explore]

On another quiet hunt for little mushroom fairies, I happened upon this darling couple, standing near the edge of the woods, whispering quietly together and enjoying the cool, moist day. As they cuddled close with obvious affection, I got this picture as one kissed the other on the head, and I heard him say to her, "Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies." ~ Aristotle Explored (Flickr) on December 22, 2012. This is my submission for Shapes: Heart! It was very hard to choose which picture, but this Mourning Dove feather wins! :) Isn't it interesting how picture opportunities sometimes present themselves as if they were waiting for you to arrive? This morning I went out with a challenge in mind...I was hoping to find a natural "window" picture because I was so inspired by one of my Flickr friend's images ( "My gift for the day was the light" , by Jannydawn/Janet Smith). While I was experimenting with different ideas, something waving in the breeze caught my eye. I focused my attention and this is what I saw! Gautama Buddha or Siddhārtha Gautama Buddha, also called Sakyamuni, was a sage from the ancient Shakya republic, on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. He is also referred to as "the Buddha" or simply as "Buddha." Wikipedia: Buddha
