I Just Wanna Be MEEEEEEE!!!!! (2 more pix above in…

What you're seeing here are two Blue & Gold Macaws, held by the impressive Chris Biro of Bird Recovery International. What you don't see is the third bird held in Chris' right hand which was very clearly disliked by the macaw making the huge fuss. In the pictures I've added in notes above, you'll see it in a very aggressive stance with fluffed feathers and "pinned" eyes. "Pinned" eyes are when a bird's pupils become extremely small and happens when a bird is angry or over-excited. If you ever see a bird showing this body language, DO NOT try to interact with it unless you want to be bitten or quite possibly attacked. This bird is telling everyone that he isn't to be messed with right now. When Chris saw the problem, he put the other bird down and immediately the aggressive bird calmed down and was a very happy bird again! :) If you would like to know more about Blue & Gold macaws, Wiki has a page here: Wiki: Blue and Gold Macaw If you would like to know about Chris Biro's wonderful parrot conservation organization, please visit Bird Recovery International

Jackson County Fair: Blue & Gold Macaw Waving Hi!

26 Jul 2012 1 506
Another attraction at the county fair was a parrot show, and I knew it would be a lot of fun! It turned out to be much better than I expected and was centered around education. The birds in this show are able to fly at will, but stay because their owner, Chris Biro, loves them all and gives them protection and food. As Steve and I walked into the show area, one of the Blue & Gold macaws sitting on a rooftop waved a foot in the air and looks like it's saying, "HI THERE MATEY! Welcome to the Pirate's Parrot Show!!" The magnificent Blue & Gold macaw, also known as a Blue & Yellow macaw or "B&G", is a fairly common wild macaw in much of South America, but is extinct, extremely threatened or endangered in many places where it was once common. This is all because of the pet trade, but bans on the import of wild parrots has helped stopped this, and some bird populations are recovering. Pirate's Parrot Show: Eye-to-Eye

I rarely pass up the opportunity to visit parrots whenever I am near them, and I was delighted at the educational parrot show put on at the Jackson County Fair a few weeks ago. The man in command, Chris Biro, has dedicated his life to educating the public about parrots and their plight, but in a way that's fun and interesting for everyone, including the birds. These captive parrots have the unique opportunity to fly as they please, and it's Chris Bro's gift to these rescue birds who all love this man with a mission.. Chris showed off his talented birds and taught the crowd things like why parrots are different than other birds, and why they are endangered in the wild. At the end of the show, he allowed the audience to line up and get the chance to hold the amazing Blue & Gold macaw in the picture above. I got a magic shot of this little boy who is realizing just how amazing and intelligent this bird is as the two look into one another's eyes. A very cool thing to witness. If you missed my information on this macaw in the first image I posted of a Blue & Gold. , here it is again: The magnificent Blue & Gold macaw, also known as a Blue & Yellow macaw or "B&G", is a fairly common wild macaw in much of South America, but is extinct, extremely threatened or endangered in many places where it was once common. Blue & Gold Macaw (2 more pix above in notes)

I've been crazy about parrots for many years, and my first encounter was when a friend of mine introduced me to her mother's macaw and prompted me to hold her. I was just blown away at this bird's beauty and intelligence. This is the amazing Blue & Gold macaw. They can live to be 80 years old and are one of the largest, with a wingspan of up to 45"! Their calls can be heard over a mile away in the jungle!! It's All About Trust.

This is from my archives, a collage of images I took at the Chris Biro's Pirate's Parrot Show. He wanted to demonstrate how a bird can trust you completely by tossing one of his beloved Blue & Grey macaws in the air and catching it! He did it twice in a row, and that bird loved every second ot it! :) Amazing!
