98/366 The Big Dipper and the Moon

10 Apr 2016 18 12 1049
A few years ago, Steve and I joined our local photography club. One of the first monthly assignments was doing night photography, and I was really excited to try this out on my husband's 5D Mark I. My husband helped me set things up and I had lots of fun playing around with long-exposure images of the night sky. Here is an image of the Big Dipper withe the partial moon looking on.

This evening, just after the sun had set, I looked out and gasped. I'd forgotten about the smoke from the burns today. The effect on sunsets can be incredible and they certainly were tonight! The added bonus was a pair of jet trails, the moon and Venus above!! Hooray!!

Artistic Moon

[best appreciated at full size against black] Our photograpy group has a new theme every month, and this month was "The Moon." Since I'm so focused and excited about spring and using my macro lens, I wasn't as inspired as I should be. I ended up taking this picture and putting a colorful filter on it to make it look different. I hope you like it! :) This image was taken in February, 2012.

Birthday Almost Full Moon!!

On Saturday (the 29th), I turned 48 years old!! Holy cow, it's just such a strange number to me because I act and feel like I'm in my 20's! Ok, I'm lying. I'm a 6-year old. I can't help it, I love to be silly! :D I had a wonderful day! Steve and I got up early and drove out to the coast, something we've wanted to do for 7 years since we moved to southern Oregon! We got to spend 5 hours walking on beaches, taking pictures, and totally enjoyed ourselves. It was bliss! Both of us were raised on the coast (San Francisco for me, Los Angeles for him) and we really miss the ocean! (I'll have pictures starting tomorrow!) We were both exhausted when we got home so we went to bed early, but I forced myself to take some moon pictures first because it was just one day off from being full, something that's only happened twice in my lifetime (1966, 1985). In 2015, the moon will be full a day earlier, but the next full moon on September 29 will occur in 2023 when I'm 59 years old! By the way, I've uploaded 2 more pictures today, and I'm going to be spending my free time catching up on everyone's photostreams!! YAYYYY!!! Thanks so much for all of your visits while I've been too busy to visit you all! And thank you for making my Flickr experience such a great one! You guys ROCK!
