Pictures for Pam, Day 22: Happy Fence Friday

01 Dec 2018 33 23 558
Ok, ok I'll play already!! Happy Fence Friday, SHEESH! I know it's Saturday for all of you eager beavers out there who are so far in front of us slow US tortoises, but from where I'm sitting it's not quite 6pm so my picture counts! :D This picture is part of an unpublished website I created to document the motorcycle trips that Steve and I have been on over the years. The last one we went on was about 2.5 years ago. The five-day trip took us from our home in southern Oregon down through California to San Francisco, south to Santa Cruz, east to Yosemite and north past Reno, Nevada, back into California and north through eastern California and finally back into Oregon past Klamath Falls and home. We went with a good friend who also loves photography and motorcycle touring, so we all had a fabulous time! I took this picture from my position behind Steve on our BMW motorcycle! In fact, I got quite good at capturing the sights as we went along, gathering thousands of images of this trip when all was said and done. I thought this image was a good choice for my HFF submission because it also sums up what it meant to have our friend along with us on this great adventure. It was captured somewhere along the California coast south of Fort Bragg. I really enjoyed revisiting my finished photography from that trip and it makes me wonder if I should go ahead and make the site live. It's basically done. There are journal entries of every day and it's fairly brimming with photography. I never took the final step to make it live because there are a few things that need some work, but the galleries are all there and the writing is done. So maybe I should share it… Pam, I look at this picture and wonder if you've ever been on a motorcycle ride before. It is a very nice experience…you can feel the wind in your hair and smell the land around you. Instead of being boxed in and sealed by a car, you become part of the place that you travel through. We once had a friend who'd never been on a motorcycle before, so Steve gave her a ride over the Bay Bridge into San Francisco…she didn't stop beaming for hours. Maybe someday we will be travelling through your area with our motorcycle and Steve can give you a ride too if you would like! :) This is a joyful thing for me to picture. Hoping you are having a nice Friday!

Snowy Oak in the Icy Mist (one inset image!)

1 picture above in a note! :) I looked out into the meadow this morning and saw the frosty mist rising up around the lone Oak there. Even though I have taken pictures of this tree in the mist before, I thought it would be wonderful to have a picture where it has snow on its branches and very few leaves! :) (roll your mouse over the image above to see the other misty Oak picture I posted a while ago!)

Ivy Climbing up Eucalyptus Tree

18 Sep 2011 256
One of the amazing things about this eucalyptus forest is all of the ivy which climbs up the trees. It will climb up and completely cover entire trees! This image was taken during my trip to San Francisco during September 12-15, 2011.

Eucalyptus Forest People B/W

18 Sep 2011 1 1 255
I've just returned from my trip to San Francisco to visit my father! I'll be posting many, many images from this trip! (If you are interested, I've uploaded 11 pictures in this batch, which include pictures of my childhood home!) I appreciate all of your comments everyone, thank you so much!! :) I hope you enjoy the show! This is a classic image of how I view one of my favorite places in San Francisco. Mt. Davidson is a large park area behind our home, and it's covered with Eucalyptus trees. It is foggy most of the time, and this image is what I think of when visualizing this place. (I am using archive pictures for this project, and what a nice way to share some older pictures that turned out nicely!) Do a search for Monte Verde Cloud Forest in Costa Rica some time and you'll be surprised how similar foggy Mt. Davidson looks in comparison! [best appreciated at full size against black] There's something so cool about the way fog rolls over hilltops and through valleys. This is one of the ridgelines across the valley from our property covered with morning fog.

Fog and Mist with Steam on the Meadow

31 Dec 2011 7 3 455
(For Sunday Challenge: Since it is ok to use an old picture, I thought I'd toss this one in, as I really love love love the mist coming up off the meadows and the fog in the background. The b/w adds to the magic of this picture, so it's one of my most memorable weather pictures!) A few days ago I went out to take frost images, but after I got back inside, I looked out the kitchen window and saw steam rising up off the meadow next to our property. It was so awesome looking that I turned around, put my boots back on, grabbed the camera, and took some pictures!

I looked out this morning and gasped in surprise at the sight of the fog feathering its way over and around the hills of the valley where we have our home. I immediately thought of the Misty Mountains from The Hobbit, and lost myself in the memories of that great story and also of the movie we'd recently gone to see and loved so much! The quote I used is from an amazing poem in "The Hobbit," one of my all-time favorite books. If you would like to read the whole poem, it can be found here: The Misty Mountains John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, CBE (3 January 1892 – 2 September 1973) was an English writer, poet, philologist, and university professor, best known as the author of the classic high fantasy works The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion. I looked outside this morning and was amazed at what I saw! A thick layer of fog was drifting lazily through our valley, with only a few trees in the distance able to make themselves seen through the mist. I wanted to capture this lovely sight and went for a walk around our property to find this image waiting for me. A view across our next-door neighbor's meadow with a pair of oak trees and the road disappearing into the fog.
