Gorgeous Daddy Long Leg Spider

11 Jun 2013 9 3 1486
The only kind of spider around here that gives me the creeps is this one! The reason they freak me out is that when they are disturbed, they bounce on their web and vibrate in place. As a child, these spiders made me scream my head off! When they are frightened, they run away and their legs are really scary looking as they run. As I grew up, my fear subsided, especially when I found out that spiders are much more afraid of us than we are of them. After I got a camera, I was surprised that spiders began to really fascinate me. Once I understood that spiders weren't "out to get me", I would approach them slowly with my camera and suddenly I was taking good pictures of them and discovered how beautiful they could be. Today I was watching my porch spider, Roscoe, as she worked on her web, and I happened to look up into the upper part of the alcove. I knew there were some daddy long legs up there, but this one got my attention--look at the beautiful pattern on its abdomen!!! SO BEAUTIFUL! I have certainly come a long way from the little girl who used to yell her head off if I ever saw one of these spiders bounce or run around! :D

My Brothers & Me

Wandering around my father's house, I peeked into his office and found this old, faded picture of my brothers and me. This isn't a great image (because it's faded and photographed through a dirty frame), but you can see what I looked like when I was little. Aren't my brothers cute?! I adore their smiles and happy faces!!!! My brother Scott is on the left, my little brother Brian is on the right, and my oldest brother, Doug, is at the far right. (If you would like to see some artwork by my mother, please scroll down 10 pictures: there are three pieces!) This image was taken during my trip to San Francisco during September 12-15, 2011.

Wish Upon a Star: A Tribute to Mister Rogers (Expl…

"One of the greatest gifts you can give anybody is the gift of your honest self." ~ Fred Rogers Today I was reminded of Mister Rogers, who had a show on television for children from 1968 to 2001. He passed away in 2003 and I remember how sad I felt then, remembering all the shows I watched as young child. He was a very gentle, kind man who delivered wonderful messages and lessons through his show on PBS. Today I saw an article about a wonderful music video dedicated to Mister Rogers that's gone viral on YouTube. As I watched, the memories of this man, and the sorrow of losing people in my life, and the eminent death of people near and dear to my heart made me cry, but also made me smile through my tears with the good memories I have too. I hope that you will watch this video. It's a very touching dedication by PBS Studios which I am sure you will enjoy.
