Frosted Pair of Blackberry Leaves

06 Feb 2012 1 1 201
[best appreciated at full size against black] Behind our shop we have blackberry bushes and last August-September, Steve and I ate blackberries like bears every day to try to eat them all! We made at least 5 blackberry pies, and we made cobbler, pancakes, and muffins! YUMMY!! And now the plants are nearly dead in the winter, but they're just waiting for spring to wake them up again! Here are a pair of colorful leaves, nested one on top of another, touched by frost. This image was taken in January, 2012.

Glowing Frost-Edged Blackberry Leaf

[best appreciated at full size against black] Blackberry bushes grow in a few places on our property and I found this leaf on a bush that gets more direct sunlight than the bushes which grow behind our shop and are usually in deep shade. Did you have any idea how colorful blackberry leaves can be? I certainly didn't! Here is one in tones of gold and rust, back-lit by sunshine and edged by frost. This image was taken in January, 2012.
