A placer claim, showing the locations claimed and by whom. The map shows the mine's name as "Colorado," but evidently it's now "Tammy." Pershing County, Nevada.

At the northwest end of the Bluewing Mtns, Pershing County, Nevada. It's called the "Colorado" placer on the atlas, but the claim marker (inset) calls it "Tammy." Presumably it's changed hands. There's lots of trenching by earth-moving equipment, but the area is so dry I don't know how they're working it as a placer. There's no surface water at all, and I didn't see a well. Maybe they bring in a water truck! Of course, those sorts of issues may be why the place is inactive--

Park City area, Toiyabe Range, Nevada, USA. Now described as part of the Twin River district. Several generations of claim are visible here. Note the rusty old flat tobacco tin on the post at the extreme right. In the old days such tins were used commonly for holding the claim notice. Nowadays people usually use something like a Zip-Loc bag--doesn't have the same cachet!

Seven Troughs district. You can tell this is an old one because it's just a piece of weathered log! Back in the 70s people would use pieces of plastic pipe, but those are now illegal due to some sort of deleterious effect on bird life. New claim markers are again wood, but they're machined-finished stakes from the lumber yard.
This whole area was re-staked in fall 2010 by some group. I didn't ask the survey party who they were working for!
