Looking upstream on the Eagle River, Colorado near the junction of US 24 and I-70. The slender thing crossing in the middle distance is a pipeline; I-70 (with the green girders) crosses beyond that. Gore Creek enters the river on the left just beyond the pipeline, going under the railroad bridge. Old US 6, now effectively a frontage road, is visible at upper right. The railroad, now part of the Union Pacific system, was originally part of the Denver & Rio Grande.

East of Salina, Utah. Interstate 70 follows the canyon containing the creek, heading almost due east on its way over the San Rafael Swell. A good graded frontage road parallels the freeway and the creek, and because of its overall gentle grade it makes a nice mountain bike route from the top of the pass back west toward Salina. It's more fun than the freeway! There are even a couple of short tunnels on the frontage road (inserts). "Salina" is locally pronounced with a long "i", btw.
