The inset shows the upper fall, which is off this pic to the right (the edge of the plunge pool is visible here). About 5 miles (8 km) in on the Wolf Creek Trail--at least there's something to see at the end of the hike! Btw, the "wolf" that shows up in place names all over the West probably referred to coyotes, at least in most cases.

A granite outcrop off the Wolf Creek trail in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness, Sierra Nevada, California. The bright speckles are large crystals ("phenocrysts") of potassium feldspar a centimeter or two across. I liked the way the sun angle highlighted them!
