Washoe Valley, Nevada, USA. Looking southwesterly; yes, this is a sunset shot! Carson City, Nevada's capital, is beyond the hills on the left. Washoe Lake (with water!) in the middle distance; the snowy mountains on the skyline are the Carson Range, the spur of the Sierra Nevada that juts into Nevada. The settlement in the foreground is New Washoe City, where I live. Granite boulders in the immediate foreground are bedrock in this part of the Virginia Range, and are considered part of the Sierra Nevada batholith. As I've mentioned before, the word "city" has no legal significance in the US, so even a tiny unincorporated burg like this can call itself a "city!"
