Glacially polished granite, with striations still visible, where the trail follows a bench on the way down to the base lodge for the Squaw Valley ski resort. Looking pretty much south; lift towers on the ski resort are locally silhouetted on the skyline. The gnarly tree in the foreground is a Sierra juniper, somewhat smaller than others I've photographed!

En route from the Pacific Crest Trail down to the Squaw Valley ski resort's base lodge, visible in the valley in the distance. The trail here crosses a bench of glacial-polished granite with striations even visible here and there. The splash of yellow paint on the rock to the right marks the trail.
