The flooded canyon of Frenchman Creek on Frenchman Lake, a reservoir in the headwaters of the Middle Fork of the Feather River, California. Full this year!

Frenchman Lake, the reservoir formed by the dam, is more than brimful again this year. So we've staved off drought another year--

The canyon of Frenchman Creek, flooded by Frenchman Lake, a reservoir on Little Last Chance Creek to which Frenchman Creek is tributary. The reservoir is actually a bit overfull, with the spillway running slightly at the dam (right inset). No drought this year, again--yay! The insert on the left shows a slightly different view. Little Last Chance Creek is in the headwaters of the Middle Fork of the Feather River, in eastern California not far from the Nevada line.

Another view of Frenchman Lake, California, after the extraordinary water season this year. The insert shows the level in Feb 2016. I didn't recover the photo stance exactly, but the pine trees in the foreground are clearly the same.

Frenchman Lake, a reservoir on Little Last Chance Creek, one of several reservoirs in the headwaters of the Middle Fork of the Feather River, California. It refilled to the point of overflowing because of the extraordinary water season. It's no longer overflowing the spillway, but it's right at the brim. The inset shows the view in February 2016, during the drought. Note the flooded bushes on the left are recognizable at the upper edge of the snow patch in that pic. There's still a bit of snow on the highest elevations in the distance, but with temperatures >90 F (32 C) it's not going to last!

Drought

Frenchman Lake, a reservoir on Little Last Chance Creek, one of several reservoirs in the headwaters of the Middle Fork of the Feather River, California. At least it had some water last year, but there should have been lots more snow around in February. This year, by contrast, the reservoir overfilled--I'll post some pix when I get some. The inset shows another view.
