This slot canyon is the course of the South Fork of the Little Humboldt River, here flooded by Chimney (Dam) Reservoir. Looking downstream toward the dam (just off to the left of the photo). The extension of the lake to the right, beyond the slot canyon, is where the North Fork comes in. The drought is apparent from the water level!

Wide open spaces. Looking south along BLM road 2037--the body of water in the distance is Chimney Dam Reservoir, on the Little Humboldt River. The stickery grass is cheat grass, a particularly obnoxious invader weed that's taken over much of the West, and that (for obvious reasons) has increased the frequency of wildland fires! Humboldt County, Nevada.

On the Little Humboldt River in northern Nevada. It's nowhere near full, but at least there's water after the better water season last winter. It had been hard-hit by the drought as well.
