A.k.a. salt cedar. Tamarix spp.; the dark green shrub with dead branches in the middle ground. A native of Asia, it is one of the most notorious invader weeds in riparian habitats in the southwest US. And it was (as usual) imported with the best of intentions, for riverbank stabilization. This stand is partly dead probably because of defoliation by the northern tamarisk beetle ( Diorhabda carinulata ), which has been introduced as a biological control agent. Along the Green River above the eponymous towh, Utah.
