San Gabriel Mountains, southern California. Not exactly a rushing torrent, at least this time of year! (Of course, it is located in the Arroyo Seco--"dry wash"--so you don't expect much flow normally.) And the hike is not exactly the wilderness experience, either--this is a very popular trail. Still, it's nice to have country so wild right in the backyard of the L.A. megalopolis.
