You have been warned-- Along the California Aqueduct outside Phelan, California, by the Sheep Creek Road bridge. Turns out the aqueduct _is_ open to fishing(!)

California Aqueduct, eastern branch, at the southern edge of the Mojave Desert outside the little town of Phelan, in one of the driest parts of North America. Photo taken by the bridge where Sheep Creek Road crosses. I figured the black helicopters would soon be swooping down, with a suspicious character photographing critical infrastructure, but in fact the aqueduct is open to fishing(!). So the walkways alongside are open to the public. The desert around here is heavily built up with housing developments as the L.A. megalopolis is spilling out into the Mojave, more or less along the Interstate-15 corridor.
