Another example of differential weathering. The light-colored aplitic dikes are harder than the darker host rock, which is probably metamorphic altho covered with lichen! Roaring Creek drainage, off the Poudre River, Colorado, USA.

Cutting unconsolidated alluvial fan sediments in a roadcut somewhere near the Willow Beach turnoff on US 95. It was no doubt a feeder for the basaltic flows of which pieces are preserved locally (e.g., the caprock on Fortification Hill north of Hoover Dam.)
