Little Daisy Mine, Jerome, Arizona, USA. Now a small park (county or city). The shaft is 1900 feet deep and now covered by a thick layer of some transparent plastic (Plexiglas?). You can stand on it and look down! Jerome was a bit later than many of the mining towns in the US west--it was primarily for copper, not precious metals, and didn't shut down until the 1950s. The very latest activity was at an open pit in the mountain just northwest of town.
