All about MV Walla Walla...

A plaque with some details on the construction of the passenger/automobile ferry MV Walla Walla. I found it amusing that this large seagoing vessel was funded with motor vehicle taxes. Of course, it _does_ carry automobiles, so it makes perfect sense, but it still seemed incongruous! The Washington State Dept. of Transportation (WSDOT), which operates the ferry, runs the largest ferry fleet in the US and one of the largest in the world. It plies the waters of Puget Sound, so that effectively many of the communities around the Sound are part of the Seattle metropolitan area. Btw, Walla Walla is a city in southeastern Washington very near the Oregon line.
It's not peak commuter time...

On the passenger/automobile ferry MV Walla Walla, crossing Puget Sound from Kingston to Edmonds, Washington state, USA (north of Seattle). We timed our ferry ride specifically to miss the commuter rush!

Riding the automobile/passenger ferry across Puget Sound from Kingston, Washington state to Edmonds, which is north of Seattle. Looking back west to Kingston; the Olympic Mountains are just barely visible in the far distance. The curious design on the stack to the right is the logo of the Washington State Dept. of Transportation (WSDOT), which operates the ferry. WSDOT runs the largest ferry fleet in the US and one of the largest in the world. It plies the waters of Puget Sound, so that effectively many of the communities around the Sound are part of the Seattle metropolitan area.
