Tonopah Mining Museum, Nevada, in the old hoist shack for the Mizpah Mine. That's what the interpretive sign says. Hughes (or rather, his minions) bought up lots of old Nevada mining properties in the late 60s and early 70s, and some tests were actually carried out--altho it was (and is) suspected he was just the latest for fall for a mining scam!

Looks like the hoist was powered with a diesel. Tybo, Nevada. Interestingly, a high-voltage line that looks operational still runs to Tybo. I don't know if they were planning on electrifying the mine.

Still cable on the drum, even as the building falls down around it-- Tybo Mine, Tybo, Nevada.

In the hoist shack at the Mizpah Mine, on the grounds of the new mining museum in Tonopah, Nevada, USA. Note the large electric motor driving the belt. Presumably the compressed air drove the miners' drills, but it also may have had a role in ventilation.
