Very tame Canada goose in the Willamette River at Wallace Marine Park, West Salem, Oregon. You get the impression maybe people are feeding them-- ;)

Salem, Oregon, across the Willamette River. It was built 1912-1913 and hasn't carried an actual train since the early 1990s. The lift span (flanked by the tall towers) was decommissioned in 1980 by permission of the US Coast Guard, which has jurisdiction over navigable waterways in the US. The Willamette still carried significant river traffic when the bridge was built. In 2008-9, the bridge was converted into a pedestrian/bikeway connecting Wallace Marine Park and Riverfront Park. The bikeway is also passable to emergency vehicles.
