Still full from the good water year last year. That looks like it'll change... Majuba Mountain is the prominent peak on the skyline at the left.

Upper part of Rye Patch Reservoir, from Pitt-Taylor dam. During the good water year of 2011; I've got other pix where this basin is completely dry. This is the catwalk out to the valve for the outlet gate.

From Pitt-Taylor dam. Not a good year, waterwise... The catwalk extending out from the dam is the same one as in the pic of the reservoir when full.

During the good water year of 2005. The dam was built in the mid 1930s on the Humboldt River by the US Bureau of Reclamation. Here's what they say: www.usbr.gov/projects/Facility.jsp?fac_Name=Rye+Patch+Dam...

Get 'em while they last...

The line forms at the right... (Or "queue", I guess, on the other side of the pond. ;) Why you don't buy land sight unseen, especially in the desert West. And if you do decide you want a chunk of desert, make sure it comes with water rights, too. It's _really_ useless if you can't drill a well! This land is private (and thus able to be sold) because of the railroad land grants dating from construction of the original transcontinental railroad in the 1860s. The railroad was given alternating sections (square-mile parcels) extending out 6 miles (IIRC) from either side of the right-of-way.
