Gloomy

Looking up (east) the Pit River Arm of Lake Shasta on a gray day! The structure floating on the water off the point at left appears to be an outhouse(!), presumably in response to environmental regs about water pollution. The elongate objects floating out in the middle are logs, driftwood brought down by the heavy rains this last season. The inset shows much the same view when (a) the water level is a lot lower; and (b) it's clear!

Drizzly

On Sugarloaf Creek inlet, Lake Shasta, California. This inlet had been dry for years--see the satellite view, and note the flooded trees in the water straight ahead. The pine seedlings on the shore in the foreground are also at risk; this bare shoreline is the "bathtub ring" covered by the lake at its highest level. The lake's being drawn down again to make room for the spring runoff. The inset shows some drowning seedlings. Oh, and yes--those are raindrops pittering down on the water surface!

Misty bridge

Bridge carrying Interstate 5 over the Pit River Arm of Lake Shasta, California, on a very gray day! Part of the Bridge Bay Marina is visible thru the bridge pylons at left, behind the bridge. Looking more or less southwest. Lake Shasta is also full due to the exceptional water season, and indeed is also being drawn down to make room for the spring runoff. Note the flooded bushes toward the shore, as well as all the driftwood.
