Mt. Washington

Seen looking south from the Santiam Highway (US 20) east of Santiam Pass, in the Oregon Cascades. Mt. Washington is an extinct stratovolcano that's been carved into a horn peak by glaciation. The sky is murky in part due to all the wildfires in the vicinity.

Mt. Hood

View eastward from the Portland (Oregon) Aerial Tram. Mt. Hood is one of the more famous Cascade stratovolcanoes. It would be more spectacular if it weren't shrouded by cloud! It's a dangerous volcano and Portland is at risk.

Mt. Rainier, Washington state, USA

From the Crystal Mountain ski area. Taken from the top of the ridge near the Summit House, where the gondola disembarks. Looking west. Mt. Rainer is a large subduction-related stratovolcano, part of the Cascade Range that extends from northern California (Lassen Peak) up into British Columbia (Mt. Garibaldi). Its height is 14,411 ft (4392 m), but it has a prominence of over 13,000 ft because the lowlands around it are near sea level. The prominent stream at the lower left is the White River.

Washington state, USA. Looking north. Most years a non-technical route to the summit opens up on the south ridge, and that's how we got here! (Almost 30 years ago, gasp...)
