Forest litter in Plumas National Forest, near the Pacific Crest Trail in the vicinity of the Middle Fork of the Feather River. This area all burned off in the North Complex wildfire in the last few week, at least according to the fire maps I've seen. We thought it looked ripe for a wildfire when we were there--alas, we were right.

US Forest Service 60, Deschutes National Forest, Oregon, USA. It had just barely opened for the season! Map location is approximate. Btw, I assume that "windigo" is just a variant of "wendigo," which was supposed to be a spirit that carried away those who got too caught up in exploring the wilderness! I read a great ghost story once on the wendigo--it'd make a great campfire tale. You'd huddle closer to the fire! ;)
