Looking upstream on the Eagle River, Colorado near the junction of US 24 and I-70. The slender thing crossing in the middle distance is a pipeline; I-70 (with the green girders) crosses beyond that. Gore Creek enters the river on the left just beyond the pipeline, going under the railroad bridge. Old US 6, now effectively a frontage road, is visible at upper right. The railroad, now part of the Union Pacific system, was originally part of the Denver & Rio Grande.

Eagle Park, Colorado

Looking east across Camp Hale Pond--Google's name, but there's no name on the USGS 7.5' topo. Looking up the East Fork of the Eagle River. If I'm reading the map right, the peaks on the skyline in the center (left to right) are North Sheep Mountain and Sheep Mountain. "Park" was a traditional name in the US West, conferred by trappers, explorers, and such, for a broad, park-like valley. Camp Hale, in Eagle Park, was where the US 10th Mountain Division trained for WW II.

Carrying US 24 across the Eagle River and Union Pacific Railroad. Seen from the side road on the way to the village of Red Cliff. Colorado, USA.

Red Cliff Bridge

One of only two steel arch bridges in Colorado, built in 1940 and extensively refurbished in the mid '00s. It carries US 24 across the Eagle River as well as the Union Pacific Railroad. The road in the canyon below goes to the tiny town of Red Cliff, now a resort center, and continues to Shrine Pass over the Continental Divide.
